What is the EPA Construction General Permit (CGP)?

The EPA CGP is an NPDES permit issued under the authority of the CWA and associated regulations for those areas were EPA is the NPDES permitting authority. The CGP authorizes the discharge of stormwater(and certain non-stormwater discharges) from construction sites that disturb one acre or more of land, and from smaller sites that are part of a larger, common plan of development. This permit requires operators of such construction sites to implement stormwater controls and develop a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to minimize the amount of sediment and other pollutants associated with construction sites from being discharged in stormwater runoff.
